Girl, misunderstood

(a new, unedited poem – enjoy!)

She has bright colours, bright eyes and bright ideas

And no one listens.

She has pink painted all over her; a ray of sunshine, a splash of heavy perfume, and a ton of hairspray

And they all laugh.

She has yellows, and blues, and bubblegum (strawberry flavour) – and the heels tap, tap, tap on the floor

And they get annoyed.

They get so annoyed.

She has a bright, white smile, a bright future, a bright light exuding from her tongue, as the words slip from it, and it almost sounds like a dream

Except, they’re laughing

The words were supposed to be magical, instead they fall flat.

It is grating against the ears; too quiet, or too loud –

An unlikeable tone,

There is an aversion to her

She feels it in her bones …

Then, as if like lightning, it strikes her and she begins to fade –

To shut up, to let up –

To give up;

Her full moon wanes

She has bright colours, bright eyes and bright ideas

She has pink painted all over her; a ray of sunshine, a splash of heavy perfume, a ton of hairspray…

She has yellows, and blues, and strawberry bubblegum that she chews too loud; and her heels are too loud

She has an annoying bright, white smile, and no future, and darkness that clouds over her mouth, as the words slip from it, it becomes her worst nightmare:

‘It is as if I am so bright inside, but invisible in this world, it is as if no one is listening’

Even when I am screaming;

Even when I am crying,

Even though I am shining.

I guess I am just annoying;

Too colourful –

They will never understand.
