They wanted to make me the poster girl
The ‘I’ll do whatever you want me to do’ girl
The most beautiful
The most liked.
They wanted to make me the shut up girl
The ‘I’ll say whatever you say’ girl
The most invisible,
The least spoken in the room
They wanted to make me the real life doll
The, ‘let you pull the strings’ doll
The most perfect.
The most adored.
I wanted to be my own girl
To do whatever I wanted
To say whatever I wanted
To pull the strings, myself
To be real.
I didn’t need to be perfect, or to be adored
Or to be the face of it:
I’m not the face of a body that is not my own,
Anymore.
