I smile – a poem.

Smile at the birds, Because they sing. Smile at the lake when it sits. Smile at the sky Because it is blue. Smile at the lady in pink. Smile at the cashier When you buy your daily shop. Smile at the fruits when they shine. Smile at the flowers Because they are pretty. Smile at…

Smile at the birds,

Because they sing.

Smile at the lake when it sits.

Smile at the sky

Because it is blue.

Smile at the lady in pink.

Smile at the cashier

When you buy your daily shop.

Smile at the fruits when they shine.

Smile at the flowers

Because they are pretty.

Smile at the snail when it slides.

Smile at the squirrel

Because it is scared when it sees you,

Smile at the grass when it stands.

Smile at the little girl who cries

When she falls on her face, off her bike

Smile at that man –

Even as he barges into you on the platform.

Smile when the world comes crumbling down,

When you fall on your face, from the precipice.

Smile when the tears roll down your cheeks.

Smile when fear leaves you trembling in the dark,

Smile when the burden is too heavy to bear, and the worst is too difficult to face.

Smile when you feel ugly inside, as if you have nothing to offer the world.

Smile when doubt tells you so, and know that lies are often masked as truth.

Smile when there is no one to serve you your food, because there is none,

And all the shops have closed down.

Smile when the sky is blackened with thick clouds, and everyone is dressed up as a reflection of it; grey, black and dark, dark blue.

Smile, even when the birds stop singing; smile because it is healing.

It is the remedy, when one is in distress –

The antidote, the result of happiness, whatever the weather, predicament, or style of dress.

Smile when you feel like you should frown, smile when you have a reason to do it

Or none, at all.

The point is you should smile because you can;

The act is revolutionary

Even in silence.

Especially in silence.
